My AHA moment

Today in science, we used a dribble cup (overflow can) to measure the volume of irregularly shaped object. We filled the can with water, then let it dribble out until it stopped. Then we put our irregularly shaped weight into the can. Some more water came out into the little beaker. That amount of water was the volume of the weight.

Trying to figure out how to calculate volume, I thought, Well, why can't 1ml just be equal to 1cm^3? I doubted this, the main reason because of the "cubed" part of the equation. How could 1ml=1cm^3? I shared my idea with my partner, who agreed. We wren't exactly sure of our answer until Mrs. Hill confirmed it in a class discussion.
